Known in the West since the Middle Ages as Cube Pepper and on the the island of Java as Comet Tail or “Kemukus’, the fat berries of the peppercorns mature to a brilliant yelllow-red before they are harvested and allowed to dry on bamboo mats in the tropical sun. The flavour is that of traditional pepper with hints of allspice, nutmeg and camphor. They have a bright citrus sweetness with a distinct cooling menthol feeling. Comets Tails Peppecorns can be used as an alternative to black pepper in curry blends and are popularly known as a strong aphrodisiac. Try grinding the peppercorns over meat, pasta, vegetables or whenever you require a distinct aroma and flavour. (Best to use with discretion when eating with strangers!)
